Lebanese President Joseph Aoun has arrived in Washington for what is described as a historic meeting with US President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio. Diplomatic efforts are focused on security arrangements in southern Lebanon. The discussions include proposed security “pilot zones” intended to strengthen the Lebanese government’s control over national security. Rubio said Washington wants Lebanon’s government to be the sole authority responsible for security.
