Residents and tourists were evacuated overnight from the Arcachon Bay area as a huge wildfire consumed more than 3,400 hectares of forest. Driven by strong winds, flames reached 10 metres and the blaze continued spreading towards the Cap Ferret peninsula. Two firefighters died on Tuesday while tackling another fire near Bordeaux airport. The latest evacuations come as wildfires rage across France amid extreme temperatures affecting southern Europe.
