WorldFire evacuees begin returning home in France’s scorched southwest

Authorities say fires in France’s Gironde region have been brought under control, although they are not fully extinguished. The interior minister says the blazes have burned around 40,000 hectares. Some people evacuated from the area have now been permitted to return home, while others remain waiting for clearance to go back.
