More than a thousand visitors traveled to Loushan Pass in Guizhou over the weekend for an immersive historical experience. Wearing Red Army uniforms and carrying prop weapons, they acted out battles between Red Army forces and Kuomintang troops during the 1935 Long March, amid fireworks and explosions. The activity has recently gone viral on Chinese social media. It forms part of the country’s increasingly popular “red tourism” industry, which promotes the Chinese Communist Party’s revolutionary history and patriotism.
