PoliticsSeven Prime Ministers in a Decade: Why Is Britain Still Broken?
Britain has moved on to its seventh prime minister since the 2016 Brexit referendum. David Cameron, Theresa May, Boris Johnson, Liz Truss, Rishi Sunak and Keir Starmer have been followed by Andy Burnham. Interviews with political scholar Tim Bale and economist Jonathan Portes examine whether the problem is inadequate leadership or a deeper institutional impasse. Burnham promises to press a reset button through devolution, economic revival and better public services, but the central test may be whether Britain can escape its recurring cycle.
