WorldNew York mourns Tibetan activist Lobga Rangzen as Richard Gere urges attention to Tibetan rights

Hundreds of Tibetans and supporters gathered in New York’s Times Square for a candlelight memorial marking one month since Lobga Rangzen died after setting himself on fire outside the United Nations headquarters. His family spoke publicly for the first time, with his niece Tenzin Choekyi remembering him as courageous, kind and caring. Actor Richard Gere, a longtime supporter of Tibetan rights, also attended and called for continued international attention to the human-rights situation in Tibet.
