WorldHungary shuts down nuclear reactor amid drought and soaring temperatures

Nuclear power is often promoted as a way to address global warming, despite the risks associated with it. Unlike coal- or gas-fired plants, it produces energy without comparable greenhouse-gas emissions. Across Europe, higher temperatures and drought are creating operational problems and forcing nuclear plants to shut down. Hungary is closing a reactor because water levels are too low to cool it, even though the unit is intended to supply energy to half the country.
