PoliticsTaiwan official says cross-Strait communication has not been cut off

Taiwan’s Mainland Affairs Council minister Chiu Chui-cheng says cross-Strait relations face high risks, with China’s pressure on Taiwan extending across military, economic, legal and cognitive domains. The Democratic Progressive Party has governed Taiwan continuously since 2016, while tensions in the Taiwan Strait have persisted. Chiu says official contacts, existing agreements and people-to-people exchanges still keep communication and risk management in place. Beijing insists that official dialogue can resume only on the basis of the 1992 Consensus and the one-China principle.
