World81st Hiroshima A-bomb anniversary: Takaichi pledges to pursue a nuclear-free world
Japan marked the 81st anniversary of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima on August 6 with a memorial ceremony. The Peace Bell sounded at 8:15 a.m., followed by a moment of silence attended by about 50,000 people from more than 100 countries and regions, including survivors. Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi reaffirmed Japan’s three non-nuclear principles and vowed to work for peace and a world without nuclear weapons. Hiroshima Mayor Kazumi Matsui also urged global leaders to abolish nuclear arms and prevent a recurrence of the tragedy.
