ScienceSpain begins annual flamingo-ringing initiative

Hundreds of volunteers gathered at Spain’s Fuente de Piedra lake on Saturday for the annual flamingo-ringing programme. This year, 600 chicks were tagged so their movements across nature reserves in Europe and North Africa can be tracked. More than 200,000 flamingo chicks have hatched at the lake since it became a reserve in 1984.
