A rare total solar eclipse is only hours away, with parts of northern Spain set to fall briefly into darkness as the Moon passes in front of the Sun. Millions more will see a partial eclipse across Europe, Canada, the northern United States and northwest Africa. Eclipses also give scientists valuable clues about the Sun and the universe.
