Sam Neill, the actor known for more than 100 films including the Jurassic Park series and The Piano, has died aged 78. Tributes describe him as a champion of New Zealand’s arts, culture and environment, as well as a generous collaborator and friend. Australian director Phillip Noyce, who worked with Neill on Dead Calm, called him perhaps the most gentlemanly actor he had encountered: level-headed, sincere and true to his word.
