Plans to expand the men’s World Cup to 64 teams are expected to be revisited after the 2026 tournament. Fifa president Gianni Infantino says the proposal will be examined in detail. He argues that football should be “for the whole world”. The idea has therefore been put forward for further assessment, rather than confirmed as an approved change to the competition.
