China’s Xinhua News Agency announced on July 14 that Ma Xingrui, a member of the Communist Party’s Politburo and former Xinjiang party chief, had been expelled from the party and removed from public office. The measures are known as a “double expulsion.” The move marks the fall of a representative “technocrat” of the Xi era. Three Politburo members have fallen during one term.
