ScienceFirst sunlight-reflecting space mirror cleared for launch

Reflect Orbital has received approval to launch its first space mirror, a project intended to redirect sunlight toward Earth during nighttime. The US Federal Communications Commission authorized the California startup to build and operate one prototype satellite in low-Earth orbit. The launch is planned for later this year. Regulators gave the project the green light despite concerns surrounding the technology.
