Former Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero said jewellery seized by police during an investigation was a personal gift given to him years ago. The jewellery was valued at €1.3 million, or about $1.5 million. Zapatero said it was a courtesy gift and had never been meant to generate financial gain.
