WorldMillions of animals affected by wildfire in southwest France, radio reports

A severe wildfire in France’s southwestern Gironde department has affected millions of animals, according to Allain Bougrain-Dubourg, head of the League for the Protection of Birds. Some were badly burned, while amphibians, reptiles, hedgehogs, badgers and foxes sheltering in burrows may have died from carbon monoxide poisoning. France has lost 117,000 hectares of forest to fires this year, and the risk remains extremely high.
