EconomyMost Sydney tolls to keep rising after Transurban accused of blocking reforms

A deal by New South Wales’ Labor government will deliver one-off toll cuts on a handful of Sydney motorways, but WestConnex and NorthConnex are excluded and WestConnex charges will continue rising by at least 4% annually. The state will spend more than $993m on widening the M2-M7 and settling the agreement, while toll costs paid by taxpayers exceed $1bn. Former competition regulator Allan Fels accused Transurban of blocking broader reform and putting profits ahead of the public interest.
