The US State Department has told Congress it intends to close five diplomatic missions, Reuters reports, citing sources. The posts are in Winnipeg, Nagoya, Douala, Medan and St. George’s. The White House initially sought to shut as many as 30 overseas posts, while Democratic Party and national security sources warned that the reductions could weaken Washington’s position across several regions.
