ScienceAstronomer assesses risks of destroying asteroid with nuclear bomb
Mikhail Maslov of Novosibirsk State University says using a nuclear bomb to destroy an asteroid could accidentally redirect it toward Earth or leave large fragments on a collision course. The plan, which involves drilling into the asteroid and placing the device inside, has not been technologically developed and remains largely at the simulation stage.
