A joint operation by Nigeria’s military, police and counter-terrorism units has freed more than 300 people held in forests in Kainji Lake national park. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu called it the country’s largest single-day hostage recovery. Those rescued included 163 people abducted in February in Kwara state and 145 mainly from neighbouring Niger state.
