Singapore’s Internal Security Department said on July 27 that three self-radicalized youths were detained under the Internal Security Act between April and June. A 14-year-old secondary two student allegedly planned to use a knife against teachers and classmates. A 19-year-old intended to attack air-base personnel and LGBTQ students, while a 15-year-old planned to establish a so-called “Malayan caliphate.” The three were unrelated but had encountered extremist material online and planned violent attacks. K. Shanmugam urged greater public vigilance against youth self-radicalization.
