Aerial footage has captured collapsed buildings after a magnitude 7.1 earthquake struck Japan’s south-western Kumamoto prefecture. Emergency services said part of a shopping centre gave way and people were trapped inside. The Japan Meteorological Agency placed the quake’s depth at 10km and said it occurred at 4.27pm local time. Shaking reached level seven, the highest point on Japan’s Shindo intensity scale.
