WorldBastille Day celebrations in France tempered by fear of more wildfires

France marked Bastille Day under a searing heatwave and growing fears of further wildfires. Authorities across the country cancelled traditional firework displays and balls because of the danger. In Paris, Emmanuel Macron presided over his final Bastille Day military parade, where the procession presented a message of French rearmament and Europe’s strategic awakening. Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Keir Starmer, Friedrich Merz and around two dozen other national leaders joined the event.
