WorldFirefighting planes battle wildfire in Fontainebleau forest near Paris
French officials sent two firefighting aircraft to the Paris region on Sunday after an exceptionally large and highly virulent blaze erupted in the Fontainebleau forest. The wildfire rapidly consumed more than 800 hectares and was still spreading early Monday. Villages were evacuated, while part of the A6 highway was closed and high-speed rail services disrupted. The fire struck the forest about 60km south-east of Paris during a busy summer travel weekend affected by a heatwave.
