Two fires in the Fontainebleau Forest south of Paris have burned just over 2,000 hectares since Sunday. The local prefect said Tuesday evening that the blazes had been “contained,” while stressing that they had not been extinguished. Prefect Pierre Ory explained that containment means the fires are confined within their existing perimeter. Firefighters are expected to remain at the scene for days, or possibly weeks, as operations continue.
